Do you ever feel like you’re struggling to take care of everyone else’s needs and are feeling guilty about wanting to take more time for yourself?

Self-care is so much more than some massages, drinking water, or getting a good night’s sleep.

Self-care starts with taking back your power through self-awareness and self-trust.

Let’s first look at how we tend to give away our power in the first place.

We give away our power by:

  • People pleasing
  • Seeking approval
  • Seeking validation
  • Dismissing compliments
  • Avoiding setting boundaries
  • Avoiding keeping boundaries
  • Avoiding acting on the consequences of people dismissing or crossing our boundaries
  • Not asking for what we want
  • Ruminating over the past
  • Blaming ourselves
  • Worrying about the future
  • Silencing ourselves
  • Trying to save others
  • Not getting our needs met
  • Saying Yes when we want to say No
  • Saying No when we want to say Yes
  • Saying Yes or No when we aren’t ready to say either
  • Trying to anticipate other people’s needs
  • Apologizing for random things that don’t really even need an apology
  • Over explaining
  • Self-deprecating comments or thoughts
  • And the list goes on…

So then, how do you take your power back and stop doing any or all of the things I just mentioned?

The first step is self-awareness.

Self-awareness is catching yourself when you do any of these things.

All you need is the willingness to change, plus the right tools and some practice.

And then, once you’re more self-aware, how do you know what’s the better option for you in any of those moments?

The second step is self-trust.

There's tremendous value in developing and honing the skill of being able to hear your intuition, or your gut, or what I also like to call your inner compass.

Self-awareness and self-trust really are the foundations of self-care and are key skills necessary to develop in order to have a more enjoyable life. Notice that I’m calling them skills because they are things you can learn how to do.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I am committed to helping you reduce overwhelm in your life and take better care of yourself.

High achievers usually love their work and find meaning and passion behind it. What can happen, though, is you may start to feel stuck taking care of everyone else’s needs and then neglect your own.

Taking care of yourself first is NOT selfish.

Wanting more satisfaction in your life is NOT selfish.

I’ve got something special for you. I have a free video training where I share three secrets that’ll help give you peace of mind, less anxiety, and more YOU time. And if you’re loving what you hear in that video, there’s also an exclusive opportunity to work together so you can move from Busy to Balanced. To check it out, go here to watch it.
