There's a theme that has shown up in my life this week around the concept of cutting energetic cords. Yesterday morning, I was doing a 10-minute guided meditation by Gabby Bernstein – a free meditation she has available through a podcast episode specifically focused on cord-cutting.

In case you've never heard of cord-cutting, I'll explain it briefly. We form energetic cords with other people, circumstances, as well as prior versions of ourselves or ways we've been and things we've thought. The concept of cutting cords is cutting the energetic/emotional connection to those people or things. This is not to say that you want to cut all actual real-life connections with these people or things. In this sense, it's more often that it's literally cutting some sort of energetic connection you've got that is having a negative effect on you and is weighing you down or keeping you stuck in some way. Ultimately, it is keeping you from living the life you really want to live, and it's keeping you tethered.

In this meditation, Gabby talks the listener through bringing in Archangel Michael and asking him to use his golden sword cut the cords. I personally love that visual of a stunning, vibrant, strong angel with this golden sword cutting cords. While I don't follow a specific religion, I am spiritual and find support in connection with the Archangels. It's important to note that you do not need to be of a certain faith to find support in angels. And if angels don't resonate with you, that's fine, you can still get value from this concept and practice. You can picture yourself using a sword or large scissors to cut them. You can use any visualization you like that supports you.

As I was listening to this meditation yesterday, I had a vision come to me that I've never quite experienced before. I was on the ground kneeling, crouched down, and hunched over, with many cords connected to me, and the other end of each cord was connected with a person standing around me in a circle. As I looked around, I saw people in my current life now, as well as people from prior chapters of my life.

It was really interesting to see some people show up that I thought I had completely forgiven or released. In fact, a few people popped up that I hadn't thought about for a long time. I thought to myself, "Oh look, there's still a little work to be done to let go of something that my subconscious is holding onto in regard to these people."

In other words, I have connected some experiences, words, thoughts, or feelings with these people in such a way that it is literally holding me down.

This visualization didn't scare me; it made me curious.

As I listened to the rest of the meditation, Gabby's voice invited me to let the cords be cut.

I visualized his large, golden sword swinging around the entire circle and cutting one cord after another, after another, after another.

And I felt some freedom through an expansive feeling that came about as I became untethered. And to be clear, I want to keep a connection of love with people that I'm cutting cords with. Love gets to stay. The other stuff holding me back – that stuff gets to go.

Today, I had an appointment with my homeopath. As I was talking with him, he said to me, "Do you think you have some cord-cutting to do?"

I had not shared with him about yesterday's meditation experience, so it was very serendipitous that he brought up this concept, and I decided maybe it would be a worthwhile topic to share with you.
