Feeling the urge to Spring Clean? (or if you’re in the Southern hemisphere, maybe you’re feeling the desire to do an Autumn Scrub?)

I know I am.

Cleaning out, decluttering, and reorganizing has always been at the top of my list of stress-relieving activities.

When I was young, it was common for my parents to find me reorganizing a drawer in my room or rearranging my collection of knickknacks. Little did I know at the time of all the emotional benefits.

I recently did a serious clean-up of many things in my life, and some things that turned out to bring me the most satisfaction and relief were seemingly small!

I am surprised at how long I let some of these things go on and drain my energy when it honestly took very little time and money to clean them up.

Below are ten things I did that made me feel lighter and brighter.

I hope that I’ll inspire you to clean up something in your life this week. Start with JUST 1 THING…go with whatever comes first to your mind after reading this blog.

  1. Replaced my phone’s glass screen protector that had been cracked for over a year (and I already had a new one, I just needed to take 5 minutes to change it)

  2. Discarded shampoo that I didn’t like and constantly stared at (and previously felt guilty about getting rid of)

  3. Replaced old kitchen towels

  4. Replaced old bathroom towels (my favorite towels aren’t even expensive, they’re from Target! The first word that came to mind once I wrapped myself in a new towel: luxurious!)

  5. Left some Facebook groups that no longer suited me – I started curating a feed that inspires me

  6. Scanned, shredded, or filed paperwork that was sitting on my desk

  7. Deleted or filed emails and files on my computer desktop

  8. Called our IT company and ordered Internet boosters for our deck and home gym – they are getting installed next week – yay!

  9. Restretched our carpet – No more speed bumps

  10. Left two groups I was a member of – I finally listened to the quiet voice inside me that said, “these aren’t right for you anymore” (Initially, the louder voice of annoyance at my schedule popped up more than once when I saw those meetings, and then after I finally sat quietly for a bit to check in with myself, I realized that I could choose to kindly leave them)

Each of these things brought me a little sigh of relief. I created emotional space to be more authentically me as I venture to live my best life.

Life has enough challenges of plenty of things we don’t have control over.

So what about the things you do have control over?

What is ONE THING you could do today that would make you feel sweet satisfaction instead of daily annoyance?

Go do it!!! NOW! Seriously!!! (or at least put a note in your calendar to do it first thing in the morning)
